The Source of the Gift

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life‘ (John 3:16).

God is the One Who planned, prepared, and promised eternal life with Him in Heaven before the world even began. It has always been God’s greatest desire for us all. Titus 1:2 – ‘In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.‘ Unfortunately, from the beginning of creation the devil has deceived people to rebel against God and His ways, and has persuaded them to live life without Him. As a tragic result, people miss out on God’s promise of eternal life. God didn’t intend for us to die. It is God’s intention that we would live forever. However, it is sin (rebellion against God) that brings forth death. Romans 5:12 – ‘Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

The Sacrifice for the Gift

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life‘ (John 3:16).

God’s amazing, unconditional love is what motivated Him to give us the gift of eternal life. God’s love was not just spoken with words, but was demonstrated by giving us His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for our sins. Romans 5:8 – ‘But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.‘ Jesus died on the cross for our sins. He died in our place, receiving the judgment that we deserve to give us eternal life. This is the greatest gift ever given. Romans 6:23 – ‘For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Scope of the Gift

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life‘ (John 3:16).

God’s gift of eternal life is offered to every single person in the world. However, in order for people to have the gift of eternal life, they must receive it by faith. 1 Timothy 4:10 – ‘…we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.‘ To receive the gift of God means a person must turn to God by believing on Jesus Christ alone. John 1:12 – ‘But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:‘ Will you humble yourself, and acknowledge your sin and rebellion against God? Will you turn from your ways, and put your trust in Jesus Christ alone to save you from eternal death, judgment, and hell? You can call out to the Lord Jesus with a true heart by faith; and He will forgive you, save you, and give you the gift of everlasting life. Romans 10:13 – ‘For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The Seriousness of the Gift

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life‘ (John 3:16).

If a person does not accept God’s gift by receiving Jesus Christ as personal Saviour, then that person will perish in hell forever. But, it is against God’s desire that you go to hell and pay for your own sins. 2 Peter 3:9 – ‘The Lord…is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.‘ Hell was created for the fallen, rebellious angels; but if any person decides to follow after the ways of the devil, then it is by their own choice that they go to Hell. John 3:18 – ‘He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The Security of the Gift

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life‘ (John 3:16).

The gift of everlasting life is based upon God’s promise. Titus 1:2 – ‘In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began.‘ God’s promise is that we can HAVE it. Not maybe, not hope-so, but we can know-so; God says we can have it. To have God’s gift of eternal life means we can never lose it. That is the security we can have in God and His love for us. 1 John 5:11-13 – ‘And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.‘ What will stop you from receiving God’s gift of eternal life? What will stop you from trusting Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour? John 3:15 – ‘That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
